FAQs

  • Leaf is currently free to use on both iOS and Android.

  • Yes, all audio recordings are encrypted and safely stored with cloud-based storage. You control who has access to them through the sharing settings in the app. In the unfortunate circumstance that we have to cease operations (which is unlikely!), your recordings will continue to be safe and live on through the storage methods mentioned above.

  • Leaf is compatible with both audio and video files (for video files, only the audio portion will be stored).

The following audio files are compatible with leaf: .mp3, mp4, wav, x-m4a, flac and webm.

The following video files are compatible with leaf: mp4, avi, mkv, mov, wmv, flv, webm, mpeg, 3gp, and m4v.

  • The maximum file size on leaf is 250MB. Note that the smaller the file, the faster it will upload and transcribe.

  • Voicemails on both iPhone and Android devices are compatible with leaf. Just download the voicemail on your phone as an audio file and then upload to leaf. Learn more on how to do this in our blogpost here.

  • Yes, you can upload recordings to Leaf from other recording apps. For Voice Memos specifically, see our blog post here.

  • There are two ways you can digitize old audio recordings: (1) Use a trusted professional digitizing service such as DVDYourMemories or EverPresent or (2) do it yourself - this method requires a bit of equipment, but is a fairly straightforward process. See here for a step-by-step guide to digitize an audio cassette on your own.

  • Absolutely! Examples of great opportunities to record your loved ones are on milestones such as a wedding anniversary, birthday, graduation, religious ceremony, completing a marathon or big personal achievement, special moments such as a family reunion, 1:1 time with your grandparents to hear their stories, or day-to-day moments such as your child singing a song, telling a story, or talking about what they did that day.
