  • leaf is a private audio app for recording, organizing, and reliving real-life voice moments — from first words to family stories.

    Save quick recordings, upload existing audio (even from other apps), organize by people, get transcripts in the original language, and share privately with the people you choose.

  • Yes. Your recordings are stored in secure cloud storage; you control who can listen. See your privacy policy for more.

  • No. Anyone you share with can listen in their browser — no app required. When you share a link from the app, recipients can tap and listen instantly on mobile or desktop.

  • Leaf is compatible with both audio and video files (for video files, only the audio portion will be stored).

    The following audio files are compatible with leaf: .mp3, mp4, wav, x-m4a, flac and webm.

    The following video files are compatible with leaf: mp4, avi, mkv, mov, wmv, flv, webm, mpeg, 3gp, and m4v.

  • The maximum file size on leaf is 250MB. Note that the smaller the file, the faster it will upload and transcribe.

  • Yes, voicemails on both iPhone and Android devices are compatible with leaf. You can simply download the voicemail on your phone as an audio file and then upload directly to leaf. For more detail on the process, see a blog post here.

  • Yes, you can easily upload recordings to leaf from other recording apps. For Voice Memos specifically, see details in our blog post here. If you are having trouble with any uploads, please reach out to contact@sharewithleaf.com and we’d be happy to help.

  • There are two ways you can digitize old audio recordings: (1) use a trusted professional digitizing service such as DVDYourMemories or EverPresent, or (2) do it yourself - this method requires a bit of equipment, but is a fairly straightforward process. See here for a step-by-step guide to digitize an audio cassette on your own.

  • Absolutely! Examples of great opportunities to record your loves ones are on milestones such as a wedding anniversary, birthday, graduation, religious ceremony, completing a marathon or big personal achievement, special moments such as a family reunion, 1:1 time with your grandparents to hear their stories, or day-to-day moments such as your child singing a song, telling a story, or talking about what they did that day. Pricing FAQs

  • leaf is free to use on both Android and iOS. The Essentials plan unlocks premium features.

    Essentials includes unlimited recordings and uploads, AI prompts for inspiration, recording highlights with timestamps, and 20% off leaf Albums. See current pricing in the app.

  • You keep your recordings and can still listen to and export them. You’ll lose access to subscriber-only features moving forward, but your past recordings remain in your account unless you request deletion.

  • Yes — go to Settings → Manage Subscription in the app to upgrade, downgrade, or cancel anytime. Changes take effect based on your app store billing period.

  • We accept all payment methods supported by the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Available payment methods vary by country.

  • Once you hit your recording limit of 5 stories, you will continue to have access to all of your stories and those shared with you, however you will not be able to record or upload any additional content. In order to continue adding recordings to leaf, you would need to upgrade to the paid plan.

  • We don’t have a family plan at this time. All accounts are for the individual user.

Album FAQs

  • Create an Album, pick a prompt, invite friends/family, and choose a delivery date. On that date, the full collection is delivered as a meaningful audio gift.

    Contributors can record from any device — even without downloading leaf. You can add/edit contributors and prompts anytime before delivery.

  • Keep it simple and specific — “What one piece of advice do you have for the new parents?” or “Tell us a favorite memory with Grandma.”

    We also automatically provide prompt suggestions in the app based on the occasion you are celebrating.

  • Yes, you can create an album with up to 5 contributors for free. For 6 or more contributors, there is a fee that varies depending on the number of contributors invited to participate.

  • No, contributors do not pay. It is free to contribute to an Album.

  • No, the leaf app is not required. If the creator of the Album shares a link to the Album with the contributor, the contributor can record a message through the browser.

  • All contributors will receive an email invitation to participate that will include details of the album and the deadline to submit a recording.

    As the event creator, you will also receive an email with some tips to ensure a successful album!

  • Yes, if at any time you need to change the delivery date or time, you can edit your album details directly from the album page.

  • Yes, you can continue to invite additional participants until the delivery date. To do so, go to the album page and click on the red text with the number of contributors you have. You’ll then have the option to add more contributors. 

  • No, all recordings submitted as part of an Album are free - there is no fee to participate. The only fee is for the Album creator who pays based on the number of contributors they invite.
